Archive of Vibrant Matter (Galiza)

Central core of the Porto Design Biennale 2021 main exhibition, the Archive of Vibrant Matter travelled to Ferrol, Galicia. There is much to discover there: artefacts, materials, living organisms, matter and transforming practices that asks us to pay attention and attune to the materials around us, encouraging visitors to participate.

Until November 28, the Archive of Vibrant Matter occupies the exhibition space of CIS Tecnoloxia e Deseño, in the coastal city of Ferrol, Galicia. In addition to the exhibition, this travelling AVM comprises several elements: the reading room Matters of Material Concern, workshops and an expedition organized by Alastair Fuad-Luke, chief-curator of PDB21, that will help extend the digital archive with new territorial items added from Galiza.

The programme takes place in the context of a partnership between the Porto Design Biennale, the Galician Innovation Agency of Xunta de Galicia and the DIDAC Foundation in the framework of the Programme for Innovation and Sustainability 2024 — DIFERENZA, representing the first iteration of the Archive in Spain.

The exhibition opening in Spain was marked by the workshop “Algaemy! Discovering the potential of algae” coordinated by Alastair Fuad-Luke and Sara Botelho. Participants were invited to familiarise themselves with native seaweeds and an invasive species. After an initial exchange of ideas in the form of drawings and botanical diagrams, an experimental and transformative process of making new materials began. Visit the Archive of Vibrant Matter and discover all the submited artefacts.
